2015 Best Selling Passenger Cars In the United States (All Models Ranked)

As overall U.S. new vehicle volume reached record highs of more than 17.4 million sales in calendar year 2015, year-over-year volume of the Toyota Camry-led passenger car sector slipped 2%. Camry volume was flat. Sales of the second-ranked Toyota Corolla – the Camry’s little brother – were up 7%. But six of the 11 top-selling vehicles in America reported fewer U.S. sales in 2015 than in 2014, and the declines generated by some relatively popular cars were particularly harsh. The Chevrolet Cruze, Detroit’s top-selling compact, fell 17%. The Volkswagen Jetta and Volkswagen Passat both slid 19%. Chevrolet Impala volume plunged 17%. Toyota Prius sales fell 13%.

Numerous luxury cars were partly to blame for the passenger car market’s decline, as legions of consumers veered away from conventional premium sedans into small premium brand crossovers. The BMW 3-Series, Lexus ES, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Lexus IS, BMW 5-Series – five of the eight best-selling premium brand cars in America – all recorded noteworthy decreases.
