Toyota Auris Overview

The Toyota Auris is a compact car introduced by Toyota as a replacement for the Toyota Corolla hatchback in some markets. The name “Auris” is derived from the Latin word “aurum,” meaning gold, which reflects Toyota’s ambition for the model. It has been produced in two generations and was sold in various regions, including Europe and Japan.

The first-generation Auris was introduced in 2006, debuting at the Paris Motor Show. It was positioned as a more modern and stylish successor to the Corolla hatchback. The design language of the first-generation Auris was more aggressive and dynamic compared to the Corolla, aiming to attract younger buyers. In 2010, Toyota introduced a hybrid version of the Auris, which was significant as it was Toyota’s first hybrid car to be produced in Europe. The second-generation Auris was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 2012. This generation had a sleeker and more streamlined design, with improved interior quality and features. With this generation, Toyota introduced the Auris Touring Sports, a wagon variant, expanding the model’s appeal.

After the second generation, the Auris name was retired in favor of returning to the globally recognized Corolla name. In 2018, Toyota announced that the third-generation Auris would instead be named the Corolla, unifying the model’s name globally. The decision to return to the Corolla name marked the end of the Auris nameplate and highlighted Toyota’s strategy to consolidate its branding.
