Polestar 1
The Polestar 1 is the first model from Polestar, the EV brand of Volvo and its parent company Geely, since it become standalone brand in 2017. Production of the plug-in hybrid luxury coupe started in Chengdu, China in 2020. Production is limited to 1,500 units, all left-hand drive. It has a 2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine in the front powering the front wheels and two 116hp electric motors powering the rear wheels. Total power output is 600hp with 1000Nm of torque, which should give the Polestar 1 a 0-100 km/h time of 4.2 seconds.
Polestar 1 Overview
The Polestar 1 is a 2-door, 2+2 plug-in hybrid sports car manufactured by Polestar, a performance electric vehicle subsidiary of Volvo Cars. It is the first car to be produced by Polestar.
The Polestar 1 is powered by a hybrid powertrain, using a twincharged 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder petrol engine from the Volvo XC90 T8 to drive the front wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission, with an additional two electric motors powering the rear wheels. Combined, the total output is 619 hp (462 kW; 628 PS) and 738 lb·ft (1,001 N·m); at its announcement, the maximum power output was rated slightly less, at 600 hp (450 kW; 610 PS). The petrol engine is connected to an Integrated Starter Generator, acting as a starter motor and torque fill during gear changes.
The Polestar 1 has an all-electric range of 52 miles (84 km) and an equivalent fuel consumption of 58 mpg-e (58 kW·h/100 mi). On gasoline alone, the Polestar 1 is rated at 26 mpg-US (9.0 L/100 km; 31 mpg-imp) for combined city/highway driving, giving an estimated range of 417 mi (671 km). The Polestar 1 is a limited-production car, with only 1,500 units planned to be produced. It is available in two trim levels: Launch Edition and First Edition. The Launch Edition is priced at $155,000, while the First Edition is priced at $160,000.
