Here you will find annual car sales figures for Iceland. These statistics are Total Market Volumes, which include passenger cars as well as light commercial vehicles (LCVs).
Since the early 2000s, the Icelandic car market has fluctuated between 2,400 and 20,000 annual sales. The market peaked in 2005 at just over 20,000 sales, but collapsed in 2008 and 2009, losing 87% of its volume in just two years time, to a low of just 2,415 sales. In the following three years, the market showed a strong recovery, but from such a low base that it took until 2014 to return to 10,000 annual sales. After a slight dip in 2013, the double digit growth returned for another four years to peak again at ten times the 2009 volume in 2017. Then sales dropped again in 2018 and 2019 to below 14,000. LCV sales averaged a share of 12.5% of the Iceland car market from 2004 to 2009, but have dipped to an average of 7% since.
