Ford Ka+
Contrary to what its name may suggest, the Ka Plus is not a direct replacement to the Ford Ka minicar, which is based on the platform of the Fiat Panda and Fiat 500. The Ka+ is a subcompact hatchback developed for and made in Brazil, just like the Ford EcoSport small crossover. That means it is less refined than other competitors in the European subcompact car segment, like Ford’s own Fiesta, but that will be reflected in the pricing. However, it remains to be seen if European consumers are open to such a model, since the Volkswagen Fox of a few years prior was also a Brazilian-developed model later imported to Europe, and wasn’t very successful, while the EcoSport also seemed destined to fail until Ford upgraded its interior fit & finish and westernized the suspension setup. And then there’s the matter of safety, as the Ka+ is expected to score just 2 stars from the Euro NCAP crash test, which would be the lowest of its segment, where competitors easily score 5 stars.
