DS5
DS also produces and sells a sedan version of the DS5 in China, called the DS 5LS. The facelifted (2015) DS5 is the first DS model to no longer carry any Citro"en logos on its exterior and interior, marking the decision to launch DS as a stand-alone brand.
DS5 Overview
The DS5 is a compact executive car that was introduced by the DS Automobiles brand, which is a premium sub-brand of the French automaker Citro"en. The DS5 was unveiled in 2011 and was part of the DS series, which also included the DS3 and DS4. The DS series was launched to revive Citro"en’s tradition of innovative designs and engineering, and the DS5 stood out as the flagship model of the line.
The DS5 boasted a unique design that combined elements of hatchbacks, estates, and SUVs. It was recognized for its avant-garde styling with sleek lines, a distinctive chrome-finished grille, and intricate light designs. Inside, the DS5 had an aircraft-inspired cabin. One of its most notable features was the cockpit roof, which had toggle switches and a split panoramic sunroof.
The DS5 is available with a choice of petrol engines: a 1.6L turbocharged engine that produces 156 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque, and a 2.0L turbocharged engine that produces 204 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque. It is also available with a diesel engine. The DS5 is available with a choice of two transmissions: a six-speed manual transmission and a six-speed automatic transmission
The DS5 was well-equipped, in line with its premium positioning. It came with features like keyless entry and start, a heads-up display, a high-quality sound system, massaging front seats, and dual-zone climate control, among others. The DS5, like other cars in the DS range, was aimed at offering a French alternative to German premium brands. Its unique design and features were intended to attract buyers looking for something different from the conventional.
Over the years, as DS Automobiles further separated from Citro"en to establish itself as an independent brand, the DS5 saw updates to better align with the brand’s premium aspirations. However, the DS5 was eventually discontinued and was not directly replaced, as DS shifted its focus to SUVs and electric vehicles.
DS5 Sales Figures
The DS5 received praise for its bold design, both inside and out. However, its ride quality was often noted to be on the firmer side, especially when compared to traditionally smooth-riding Citro"ens.
