Citro"en C2
The Citro"en C2 is a subcompact hatchback manufactured by the French automaker Citro"en. It was introduced in 2003 and was discontinued in 2010. The Chinese Citro"en C2 is basically a Peugeot 206 with a Citro"en front-end.
Citro"en C2 Overview
The Citro"en C2 is a supermini car produced by the French automaker Citro"en. It was introduced in 2003 as a replacement for the Citro"en Saxo and was produced until 2009. The C2 was aimed at the younger demographic, and it was recognized for its unique styling and compact dimensions, making it suitable for urban environments.
The C2 was part of Citro"en’s strategy to realign their small car range. While the Citro"en C3 targeted a more general audience with its spacious interior, the C2 aimed to attract younger buyers with its sportier and more compact design. The C2 featured a distinct design with short overhangs and a split rear tailgate (which was rather unique for its segment). This tailgate design allowed for easier loading of luggage in tight spaces.
Over its production run, the C2 was offered with a variety of petrol and diesel engines. One notable variant was the C2 VTS, which was the sporty version of the lineup. It was equipped with a 1.6L petrol engine that provided spirited performance for a car of its size.
Citro"en C2 Sales Figures
The C2 was generally well-received for its driveability, especially in city environments, and its distinct design. Some criticisms were aimed at its semi-automatic transmission and rear space. The C2’s production ceased in 2009, and while it wasn’t directly replaced, the Citro"en DS3 (later known as the DS 3 under the standalone DS brand) and the Citro"en C1 can be considered as spiritual successors in terms of market positioning.
